Join us for a seminar with Professor Jens Juul Holst, 2026 recipient of the CLRF Lipid Science Prize, as he discusses GLP-1 and body fat regulation.

Abstract: 

GLP-1 and body fat

Prof. Juul Holst has made significant contributions to the discovery and characterization of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). This gastrointestinal hormone has been shown to be essential in stimulating insulin release, regulating blood glucose levels, and influencing both appetite and food intake. Jens Juul Holst has also been actively engaged in the development of novel pharmaceuticals, collaborating with colleagues to pioneer new treatments for type 2 diabetes and obesity—therapies that now benefit millions of people worldwide. His work has contributed to the understanding of the effectiveness of bariatric surgical interventions. Throughout his career, he has co-authored over 2,000 scientific papers and supervised and provided mentorship to numerous students and research associates. Camurus Lipid Research Foundation – Kåre Larsson och Gunnar Sandbergs forskningsstiftelse awarded the 2026 Lipid Science Prize to Professor Jens Juul Holst (CLRF, www.clrf.se)

Bio: Professor Jens Juul Holst is a professor of medical physiology at the University of Copenhagen and senior group leader at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research. He is renowned for discovering GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), a gut hormone regulating insulin secretion and appetite. His groundbreaking work has led to novel treatments for type 2 diabetes and obesity. With over 1,900 publications and more than 119,000 citations, he is among the most cited European scientists in his field.
