It is with great sadness we announce that our colleague and dear friend Prof. Maria da Graça Miguel passed away on 4 October. Over the years Maria had many research collaborations with members of PhysChem, and she was also during a period guest professor at the division. She had her original scientific background in fluorescence techniques and photochemistry, where she made several important contributions. But she also developed a broad interest in colloid science, which made her elected president of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS) 2008-2009. Together with Björn Lindman she created a very strong link between the Universities of Coimbra and Lund in the area of colloid and interface science, that provided opportunities for a large number of young scientists. Our thoughts are with Björn and the whole family in this very sad time.
