Titel: Slipperiness at ice-polymer interfaces studied by resonance shear measurements

Abstract: The characteristic slipperiness of ice is believed to be due to so called surface premelting, which means that there is a thin layer of liquid-like water molecules on the ice surface even below the bulk melting point. However, in the context of friction the ice is always in contact with an opposing material, potentially influencing the interfacial behavior. In this study we have investigated the melting behavior and slipperiness at ice-polymer interfaces using a unique experimental setup known as resonance shear measurements, which has been previously developed from a surface force apparatus.
