Jan Dhont is new honorary doctor of Science at Lund University

2023-01-24

Jan Dhont, Professor at the Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf and former Director of the Institute of Biomacromolecular Systems and Processes at Forschungszentrum Jülich in Germany, receives the honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Science for his seminal impact on soft matter research and colloid science.

He is an internationally leading figure in the area of colloidal materials, with a strong focus on the statistical mechanics and transport properties of complex colloidal systems and the response of such systems and (bio-)macromolecular systems to external fields, including electric fields, shear flow, confinement and thermal gradients.

Prof. Dhont had and still has a very strong connection to the Division of Physical Chemistry not only in the context of two European Infrastructure projects and other scientific collaborations, but also as a scientific visitor, teacher and mentor since 2013, spending at least one month every year at our division except for 2020 and 2021, where the pandemic did not allow for this.

We cannot think of a more worthy honorary doctor!
