Associative effects of polyacrylates in surfactant systems

Effects of surfactants on the rheology of water-soluble polymers are investigated as a function of charge density, cross-linking and hydrophobicity. The delicate balance between restoring hydrophobic interactions and osmotic swelling can be critically controlled by small concentrations of surfactants, which can change the viscosity by several orders of magnitude.
