Antara Pal

My research activities in the field of soft matter are a perfect admixture of the two classical disciplines of natural sciences, Chemistry, and Physics. My expertise lies within the broad field of self-assembly and dynamics of experimental soft condensed matter, with a particular focus on amphiphilic (surfactants and lipids) and colloidal systems.

Research Interests

Experimental Soft Matter

  •  Colloid and Surface Chemistry
  •  Interplay between the Self-Assembly & Dynamics of Colloids
  •  Lipid and Surfactant Systems
  •  Self-Assembly of Amphipilic Systems

Research Projects

  1. Extending the use of advanced synchrotron based quasi-elastic X-ray scattering to soft and biological systems at CoSAXS beamline at MAXIV Synchrotron Facility.
  2. Dynamics in Soft Matter Systems
    • Probing the collective dynamics of magnetic anisotropic colloids with(out) external fields by:
      • X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS)
      • Differential Dynamic Microscopy (DDM)
    • Establishing the relationship between the self-assembled structures and the dynamics of different anisotropic soft-matter systems on colloidal length scale.
    • Probing the dynamics of arrest transition in protein solution using XPCS.
    • Implementation of depolarized dynamic light scattering in 3D mode to study rotational dynamics of turbid samples.
  3. Self-Assembly in Soft Matter Systems
    • External stimuli assisted self-assembly of colloidal ellipsoids.
    • Analyzed the field induced structures formed by hybrid magnetic nano-ellipsoids using USAXS.
    • Structure of responsive microgels.
